Okay, here’s a question: Is it ever possible for the opponent to take over your own basic color? Like if I’m playing Black, is there ever a way that White could take over that color, and I ended up playing something else?

If you chose to play another color (through a regime change, such as a defection or overthrow, which allows you to play other colors), then the other player may later choose to take over your original color through another regime change. However, there is no way for your opponent to force you to play another color (from the one you played at the beginning of the game) if you do not wish to change.

Although... What Andy inadvertently suggests is an interesting variant of a "coup"... An interesting idea. Not sure that it's practical.

I stand corrected. Strategicon played this exact scenario out. See here: http://instagram.com/p/PCvfubHZRL/
